Porcelain Veneers in Bluffton: The Solution for Smile Improvement
Porcelain veneers are considered cosmetic and help improve the color, shape, and position of teeth. Chipped teeth are included in this cosmetic dentistry. A thin layer of porcelain is fitted over the facing surface of the tooth. It’s similar to getting false nails on top of real nails. Veneers are considered cosmetic dentistry and are not usually covered by insurance. However, there are several possibilities to be able to afford a new smile and often is well worth the cost.

The Procedure
It takes about 3 trips to the dental office for the procedure-the first appointment is for the patient consultation. Sometimes a dentist and patient will decide to start the cosmetic dentistry right away. However, the dentist will usually need two full appointments to make and adhere the porcelain. The process can be broken down into the following segments:
Treatment Planning
This is the most important step. At this point, the patient will communicate the desired outcome and any concerns about the process. It is crucial for the patient and dentist to discuss all steps to the treatment. The patient’s natural teeth will be examined being sure that dental veneers are appropriate. If there are limitations or concerns, it’s at this point that they need to be addressed. Digital x-rays will be taken in order to investigate the natural tooth. It needs to be healthy in order for the cosmetic change to take place. In addition, impressions will need to be taken.
Preparation
In order to properly prepare a tooth for this kind of cosmetic dental work, the dentist will start removing some of the natural tooth. It may start with anesthetic to numb and make a more comfortable experience for the patient. About 1/2 millimeter of enamel from the natural tooth surface will be removed. This is approximately the same size as the thickness of the veneer that will be added to the tooth. The next point is when an impression is made. An impression is just simply a model of your teeth.
A material is mixed and placed inside a U-shaped instrument which is placed in the mouth and then pushed into the teeth. This creates a mold that the dentist will use to create the veneer(s) that are desired.
Bonding
The dentist will temporarily place the veneer on the tooth. This is done just to examine its fit and color. The trim of the veneer will be moved to find the perfect fit on the natural tooth. Thanks to advanced technology and dental material, there is shaded cement that is used to adhere the veneer to the tooth. Once the perfect position has been decided, the natural tooth will be cleaned, polished, and etched. The etching process makes the surface rough, allowing a stronger bonding process. The dentist or assistant will remove the excess cement after a curing light is used to harden the material. A follow-up visit may be scheduled in a week or two, allowing the dentist to check the placement of the veneers.
Aftercare
It is important that the veneers are taken care of by brushing and flossing regularly. Despite the fact that a porcelain veneer resists stains, it’s best to be cautious when consuming stain-causing foods. This includes coffee, tea, and red wine.
